“A Royal View of the Rugby”

Today’s rugby tournament was in Windsor – within view of Windsor Castle. I am not sure if the Queen was in residence today, or if she was watching the events, but it is nice to be on a pitch with a view.

The rambling part…

Today was pretty much all about rugby. Sx and I set off at 8.15am for Windsor (not that far away but there was a half marathon on there – and the rugby tournament usuallly creates a lot of traffic too)…and we left at about 4.30pm. It was a LONG day!

It was a tough day – as Sx was playing for the A team again (having decided last season he would prefer to play for the less-pressured B team). He had been picked as a “sub” for this tournament – and they didn’t mince words in warning the subs they would only be playing in case of injury, tactical moves or “if we are winning by a country mile”. Not words to make you feel special!

As it turned out – all the subs were included in the 4 heat games – but not in the final where the pressure was too great to include such lesser mortals! The team won the tournament but I had to wonder what pleasure or feeling of achievement it could really give Sx. Personally I long for him to go back to the B team – where he had some fantastic matches, some great friends and a real feeling of being a valuable member of the team.

My photos of him in the A’s today are all of him waiting – either on the pitch or off it (on pitch he is on the edge of play usually as either wing or full back)
