Saturday 28/6/2013 – Riding in the Sunshine

The children went to Legoland with Matt this morning while I stayed home and slaved over a hot computer (literally – it keeps overheating and powering down at inconvenient moments!). I was trying to get further along with my college photography project – due in next week.

In the afternoon I took Lx and Dx for a 30 minute horse ride. It was a beautiful afternoon for it and Gx and I walked with them on their little adventure through the nearby woods.

(It made me realise that I may be at the end of my camera course, but I am still rubbish when it comes to ensuing I have the camera set up correctly!. I set the ISO, the aperture, the metering setting and the focus type before I tried to take a photo – which is good going for me as I usually forget til I have taken a few.  couldnt understand why they were coming out so dark. Then I noticed I had mistakenly put it on Manual instead of Av. Doh.

Luckily Photoshop helped me salvage those dark ones…the first one in the post originally looked like this!!

Sunday 30/6/2013 – The Owl Race

We went to a local horse show/country fair for the day. It was a beautiful sunny day and we whiled away a few happy relaxing hours. My nephew Mike (Sx’s godfather) came and joined us too.

The children got to take part in a falconry demonstration – Sx got to race a barn owl and then all the children got to experience a Harris Hawk flying low over them as they lay down.

After watching a german shepherd display, trying out some archery and eating some candy floss – we made our way home to cool off.

Mike wasn’t so lucky – he was dragged to the park by Sx for some football practice – although as Mike had his hot motorbike trousers on I believe e was glad to meet up with some friends of Sx’s so his role was a mainly sedentary one from the shade!

Thursday 27/6/2013 – Sports Day II

Dx’s sports day today (after my last visit to college which was mainly to say goodbye to people. Odd to think that 2 year course is over. It went pretty fast!)

Dx continued the boys’ run of success with a win in his sprint race. He loved sports day this year – and his detrmination to win is coming to the fore.

I took hundreds of photos for the shcool to use – but unfortunatly can’t display any here. So this will have to suffice.

Wednesday 26/6/2013 – School concert

Both older boys were in the end of year concert – Gx in the choir and Sx playing both piano (Coldplay’s “The Scientist”) and a clarinet solo.

Tuesday 25/6/2013 – Sports Day I

Today was Sports Day for Gx and Lx in the morning and Sx in the afternoon. Both the boys won their sprint and Gx came a respectable 2nd in the 600m too. Sx was in the 200m relay and his team won.

Lx enjoyed sports day and did really well. She especially enjoyed Botcha (a bit like curling)

School rules mean no identifiable photos on here so you will have to make do with this one 🙂

Monday 24/6/2013 – Macro Distraction

Today I was determined to get on with my college work as it needs to be handed in next week and I still have FAR too much to do. After two years studying photography I HAVE to get it finished but managed 4 children on my own and finding time is proving tricky.

I was determined to start at 9.30 and work till school pick up. Which gave me enough time for a cup of coffee and some cereal when I got back from the school run… and a couple of quick macros (although I saved the editing till tonight!)

Sunday 23/6/2013 – Funday Sunday

Today was the football club funday. A day of football matches with teams made up of players from different teams and a couple of age groups that had never played together before. Both Sx and Gx had fun and played well. Sx and his team won their age group which was in turns nail biting beyond endurance (when it went into extra time and then penalties in the quarter finals) and thrilling. The improvement in their team work as the day wore on and they got to know each other was joy to watch.

Sx made everyone laugh as during a particularly hard match he fought and fought for control of the ball and when he got it and headed for the goal he screamed “I am a WARRIOR!!!!!!”

 

Of course it is so much harder for those not playing…!

Saturday 22/6/2013 – Bookclub

I belong to a bookclub. Well ok its more of a wine and bookclub really. We don’t discuss literary issues or plot serialisation – we just buy books and share them. And drink wine and gossip 😀

And on Saturday we had our first “field trip”. 30 minutes in the Oxfam bookshop to buy up some culture – then off for a cocktail before an italian meal and a quick bottle of wine in the pub.

This photo wasn’t taken as a surprise – but the fact it turned out so well was a surprise. I took this for Sx’s “passport” photo required for his new football season registration. But as a quick snap it turned out pretty well.

Thursday 20/5/2013 – Mini Ballerina

Today was the day for getting to watch Lx at her ballet lesson (a once a term treat).  She loved the lesson and was grinning and hamming it up the whole time. She has asked to do modern and tap instead next term. We are going to give it a try but I am not sure she will cope with the speed and the rhythm required for tap. However the teachers are very supportive and happy for her to try – and switch back to ballet if it doesn’t work out.
