I have been meaning to photograph this grass verge for the last few weeks. The council have seeded wildflowers there and it is just beautiful. It is an area about 15ft by 8ft (I am not great with measurements! But it isn’t huge)

But it isn’t huge) Hopefully the photo below gives an idea of the size of it – and the location between the  busy suburban road and the pavement   I asked Sx to get me some wine before I logged on to look at his school report. He came in with the bottle and no glass. #ominous

(It was actually OK but 7 teachers remarked on his lack of focus and how easily distracted he was. We have been referred for help with this as I think it is a real problem for him. Hopefully this report will provide evidence of how much it is affecting his school work)

The day didn’t start well with someone going into the back of my car on the motorway. I was on a slip road between one motorway and another and rounded the corner to find the traffic at a standstill. So I stopped.  Unfortunately the car behind me didn’t. He was very nice about it, apologised, checked I was ok and exchanged details but it left me a bit shaken – and it left me on a bend having to pull back out into speeding motorway traffic.

After that the day improved, meeting with a friend at Wisley for a wander among the flowers and plants. I took so many photos I am dividing them between two posts. SO here are the “sensible ones”…

  Then home to the flowers I have there (thanks to a friend who needed to come and use my computer for the evening)…

Tuesday 17/6/2014 – Cutting the lawn

The lawn has been on my To do list for weeks. Especially the side lawn which hadn’t been done this year (oops). Today the sun was out and the children didn’t have an afterschool club so it was all systems go.

  The front and back lawns now look great as they just needed retrimming. unfortunately the mower simply laughed when I showed it the side lawn. It’s too long for it to cope with. SO I am going to have to borrow my parents strimmer (and admit to my ineptitude).

Because of how long all that took me and my mood of uselessness at not managing to finish it all I took the kids to McDs for a drive thru dinner. Which then begs the question would I have been better off paying someone to cut it and making the kids dinner! Oh well.

I popped out to take some photos of the children playing outside to cheer me up as it was a beautiful evening – but I got chatting toa neighbour instead and before I knew it, it was bedtime for the little ones. So while they got their PJs on – I went to document my day with some theraputic macro photos of the grass which is as yet uncut at the side of the house. Well there has to be a GOOD side to it still being long…

      PS This morning I was attacked by low flying spaghetti before I had even managed to have a coffee. And in other news, Sx managed to outdo even his previous track record for absent mindedness and walked to school without calling for his friend. Luckily he remembered to call for the second friend on his route – who soon pointed out there was someone missing!

Monday 2/5/2014 – Poppies

Matt had the children today too to give me more of a chance to catch up – on sleep, tidying and working out which way is up. The younger ones had an INSET day (so no school) so he took them to Legoland before swimming lessons.

After swimming and before youth club I met him down a side road for a few photos of Lx in the ten minutes she had spare! A friend had posted some photos of this location and it was too pretty NOT to go and make the most of it.

Time today for the children to see their Dad for the day. Unfortunately he needed to borrow my car so it meant I was stuck at home during the day – but he did come back in time for me to spend an evening at the Spa so not all bad.

And luckily there was inspiration in the garden in the morning to give me my photography “fix”.

 

 

Wednesday 26/3/2014 – Kew Gardens

The secondary school had a teachers’ strike today so Sx and I set off to Kew Gardens with friends. While my friend and I admired and photographed the blossom and hot house palms…

the boys had full creating some kind of action film!

     

And the rain held off till the journey home.

 

Wednesday 26/2/2014 – Sunshine

A difficult week this week with some emotional meetings with my daughter’s school. I am focussing on some “me” time on Friday and Saturday and counting down the days. Today was meeting free and a chance to get some things done at home. But not until I had enjoyed a quick ten minutes in the front garden capturing the little rays of hope growing under my cherry tree.  The weather is still very changeable – icy rain, cold winds and grey skies most days. But today their was sunshine, blue skies and beautiful spring flowers. And a reminder that it won’t always be as it has been recently.

Goodbye Summer – and thank you for visiting. It’s been a few years since you were able to make it to the UK (although I know you did pop by briefly in spring last year instead)  

But now suddenly. Its all over. Grey, wet, miserable weather. Having to wear shoes with socks and remember to take coats. In a week we have moved on.
