The day began with a bike ride for Matt and the ooldest two boys. Mtt had done a recce yesterday to plan a route which didn’t involve too many hills as there are climbs on the roads round here which would put Gx off cycling for life!
Meanwhile Lx, Dx and I played “fieldrunners” with the nerf guns – taking it in turns to try and shoot one of the others as they ran the line of the volleyball court.
In the afternoon the nerf games got more serious with a nerf war between Matt and Gx on one team and Sx and Dx on the other.
(The following photo is from a group I did today during the nerf war for a forthcoming post on “motion blur…)
After that it was time for a cool off in the pool – Sx is terrifying me with his love of doing flips in both forwards and backwards (and worrying me that he will hit his head on the edge) and Lx and Dx have overcome their fear of jumping in and are “Cannonballllllllll”ing in with gusto.
Somehow during these holidays before he starts at secondary school, my eldest son has turned into a good looking young man. I am sure it was only a few weeks ago that he still looked like a little boy???
Meanwhile in other news…the kids are having a great holiday. We only have internet in some areas of the garden – so this is known as “the internet tree”. The morning was taken up with more nerf filming and computer time. Dx and I played together for a while and decided I am no good with a gun!
Mid afternoon we headed for the lake beach hoping most of the crowds would have gone. They were still there but the kids had a great time building a sand sculpture of a crocodile and messing about in the water.
We had a picnic tea and headed home about 6 – having decided if we go later in the day, 6pm is the time to arrive, not leave. My preference would still be to get there in the early morning – before the crowds and the heat of the day. It will just be a cae of getting the children moving first thing. The lure of croissants usually works!
