Lx wanted a proper “stunt” scooter for her birthday. Such “balancing” toys are a double edged sword as she has dyspraxia (which affects her coordination and balance) so on the one had they are great for building up her ability, on the other hand she is more likely to fall than the average child.

A scooter seemed a better option than rollerblades (her other request) and it has turned out to be a wonderful present. Because of some of her other issues, Lx doesn’t really “do” imaginative play. When she does it is a real cause for celebration but it is probably only a handful of times a year. Instead she tends to relax in the evenings in front of the TV – watching the same episodes of the same programmes over and over and over and..
Since she got her scooter she is out scootering in our little “car free” corner of the road. Soemtimes Dx or Sx join her – sometimes the two little children opposite come out on their scooters too which she loves. She goes out for 15 mins, comes in for a bit then goes out again. It is SO much better as a way of spending her time than sitting in front of the TV – for exercise, therapy for her coordination problems and for socialising with other children.
Although having watching her do a few little bunny hops on the scooter tonight I have to say I am thinking – what coordination problems???
PS been thinking of renaming the blog for a while as the current name doesn’t seem appropriate anymore. I’ve been trying to come up with ideas and at last have found one I like…My.Four.Tography.Blog What do you think??
